This is a country that elected a man Prime Minister who held the Guinness Book of Records World Record for downing a yard of ale (3 imperial pints or about 1.7 liters) in 11 seconds. The current record is for a 2 pint yard in 5 seconds.

Annoyed with having to go to the bar to get refills so often New Zealand invented the larger 2 liter yard.
